स्पष्टीकरण:
भारतीय संविधान के अनुच्छेद 85 के अनुसार, संसद के सत्र को आहूत करने (बुलाने) और उसका सत्रावसान (सत्र समाप्त करने) करने की शक्ति देश के राष्ट्रपति के पास होती है:
आहूत करना (Summoning): राष्ट्रपति संसद के प्रत्येक सदन को समय-समय पर बैठक के लिए आहूत करते हैं। (दो सत्रों के बीच अधिकतम 6 महीने से अधिक का अंतराल नहीं होना चाहिए)।
सत्रावसान (Prorogation): राष्ट्रपति सदन के सत्र की समाप्ति की घोषणा करते हैं।
(नोट: लोकसभा का विघटन करने की शक्ति भी राष्ट्रपति के पास होती है, लेकिन प्रधानमंत्री या मंत्रिपरिषद की सलाह पर)।
