भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप के भीतर सम्राट अशोक के शिलालेखों को लिखने के लिए मुख्य रूप से ब्राह्मी लिपि का उपयोग किया गया था।
मुख्य बिंदु:
लिपि की विशेषता: ब्राह्मी लिपि को बाएं से दाएं लिखा जाता है। अधिकांश भारतीय लिपियों (जैसे देवनागरी, बंगाली, तमिल आदि) का विकास इसी लिपि से हुआ है।
अन्य लिपियां: उत्तर-पश्चिम क्षेत्र में खरोष्ठी, और अफगानिस्तान क्षेत्र में ग्रीक तथा अरामी लिपियों का भी प्रयोग किया गया था।
