भारत में विशेष आर्थिक क्षेत्र (SEZ) नीति अप्रैल 2000 में घोषित की गई थी। इस नीति का मुख्य उद्देश्य देश में बड़े पैमाने पर विदेशी निवेश को आकर्षित करना, निर्यात को बढ़ावा देना और रोजगार के नए अवसर पैदा करना था। बाद में इसे और अधिक प्रभावी बनाने के लिए 'विशेष आर्थिक क्षेत्र अधिनियम, 2005' (SEZ Act,
- 2005) संसद द्वारा पारित किया गया, जो 10 फरवरी 2006 से प्रभावी हुआ।

घोषणा वर्ष: अप्रैल 2000
मुख्य उद्देश्य: निर्यात में वृद्धि, विदेशी प्रत्यक्ष निवेश (FDI) को बढ़ावा देना और बुनियादी ढांचे का विकास करना।
कानूनी ढांचा: SEZ अधिनियम 2005 (जो 2006 से लागू हुआ)।
