उनके नेतृत्व में 3 जुलाई 1857 को पटना में अंग्रेजों के खिलाफ एक बड़ा जनविद्रोह भड़क उठा था, जिसमें अंग्रेजों के अफीम के गोदाम पर हमला किया गया था और अफीम एजेंट डॉ. लायेल मारा गया था।
बाद में अंग्रेजों ने दमन चक्र चलाते हुए पीर अली खान और उनके साथियों को फांसी पर लटका दिया था।
