जनगणना अधिनियम, 1948 के अनुसार, भारत में जनगणना कराने की ज़िम्मेदारी केंद्र सरकार के पास है।
मुख्य बिंदु:
यह अधिनियम केंद्र सरकार को देश भर में या उसके किसी हिस्से में जनगणना करने का कानूनी अधिकार प्रदान करता है।
संविधान की सातवीं अनुसूची के अनुसार जनगणना (Census) संघ सूची (Union List) का विषय है, जिस पर कानून बनाने का अधिकार केवल केंद्र सरकार के पास है।
