गढ़वाल राइफल्स की 2/18 बटालियन के सैनिकों ने भारतीय स्वतंत्रता सेनानियों पर गोली चलाने से स्पष्ट इनकार कर दिया था।
इस ऐतिहासिक घटना में सैनिकों का नेतृत्व वीर चंद्र सिंह गढ़वाली ने किया था। उनके इस साहसिक कदम के बाद उन पर ब्रिटिश सरकार द्वारा मुकदमा चलाया गया और लंबी सजा दी गई।
