आंदोलन की शुरुआत: वर्ष 1920 में महात्मा गांधी के नेतृत्व में असहयोग आंदोलन की शुरुआत की गई। यह पहला ऐसा आंदोलन था जिसने इतने बड़े पैमाने पर राष्ट्रव्यापी रूप लिया।

कार्रवाई के तरीके: पूरे देश में विदेशी कपड़ों की होली जलाई गई, शराब की दुकानों पर पिकेटिंग (धरना) की गई, मजदूरों और व्यापारियों द्वारा हड़तालें आयोजित की गईं और खादी व स्वदेशी वस्तुओं के उपयोग को अत्यधिक बढ़ावा दिया गया।
