भारतीय संसद की विधायी प्रक्रिया के अनुसार, जब कोई प्रस्ताव लोकसभा और राज्यसभा दोनों सदनों द्वारा पारित कर दिया जाता है, तब वह अंतिम स्वीकृति के लिए राष्ट्रपति के पास भेजा जाता है।
जब राष्ट्रपति उस विधेयक पर अपनी सहमति (हस्ताक्षर) प्रदान कर देते हैं, तब वह विधेयक एक अधिनियम यानी कानून (Act) का रूप ले लेता है।
संविधान के अनुच्छेद 111 के तहत राष्ट्रपति के पास विधेयकों पर अपनी सहमति देने, रोकने या पुनर्विचार के लिए वापस भेजने की शक्ति होती है।
