Two vertical metallic rails AB and CD are 1 meter apart and connected at both ends by resistors R1 and R2. A horizontal metallic bar of mass 0.2 kg slides vertically down the rails without friction due to gravity. A uniform horizontal magnetic field of 0.6 T is applied perpendicular to the plane of the rails. When terminal velocity is reached, the powers dissipated in R1 and R2 are 0.76 W and 1.2 W, respectively. Taking g = 9.8 m/s2, find the terminal velocity of the bar and the values of R1 and R2.
- 1Terminal velocity = 1.5 m/s, R1 = 0.74 Ω, R2 = 0.16 Ω
- 2Terminal velocity = 1 m/s, R1 = 0.30 Ω, R2 = 0.47 Ω
- 3Terminal velocity = 2 m/s, R1 = 0.37 Ω, R2 = 0.35 Ω
- 4Terminal velocity = 1 m/s, R1 = 0.47 Ω, R2 = 0.30 Ω✓
Correct answer
Terminal velocity = 1 m/s, R1 = 0.47 Ω, R2 = 0.30 Ω
