Reports from market research firms and public health agencies indicate a significant trend among Gen Z (those born after 1996) compared to previous generations, particularly Millennials. Data suggests that Gen Z is consuming less alcohol, a trend driven by various factors. They are often more health-conscious, prioritizing mental and physical well-being. Additionally, their social interactions, heavily mediated by social media, do not revolve around drinking in the same way as in previous decades. This shift also reflects a growing awareness of the financial costs associated with alcohol and a preference for non-alcoholic beverages and low-alcohol alternatives. The sober-curious movement and the destigmatization of not drinking have further contributed to this cultural pivot, fundamentally altering the landscape of social consumption.
