शुरुआत और नेतृत्व: असहयोग आंदोलन (Non-Cooperation Movement) की शुरुआत महात्मा गांधी के नेतृत्व में 1 अगस्त 1920 को की गई थी।
मुख्य कारण: यह आंदोलन मुख्य रूप से रौलट एक्ट, जलियांवाला बाग हत्याकांड और खिलाफत मुद्दे के विरोध में ब्रिटिश सरकार के खिलाफ शुरू किया गया था।
आंदोलन का स्वरूप: गांधी जी का मानना था कि भारत में ब्रिटिश शासन भारतीयों के सहयोग से ही चल रहा है। यदि भारतीय अपना सहयोग वापस ले लें, तो ब्रिटिश शासन ढह जाएगा। इसके तहत सरकारी उपाधियों, स्कूलों, अदालतों और विदेशी कपड़ों का बड़े पैमाने पर बहिष्कार किया गया। 1922 में चौरी-चौरा की हिंसक घटना के बाद गांधी जी ने इस आंदोलन को वापस ले लिया था।
