लोकसभा में राज्यों को सीटों का आवंटन 1971 की जनगणना पर आधारित है।
मुख्य बिंदु:
42वें संविधान संशोधन अधिनियम, 1976 द्वारा लोकसभा और विधानसभाओं की सीटों की संख्या को वर्ष 2001 तक के लिए स्थिर (Freeze) कर दिया गया था।
इसके बाद 84वें संविधान संशोधन अधिनियम, 2002 द्वारा इस रोक को बढ़ाकर वर्ष 2026 तक कर दिया गया है, ताकि जनसंख्या नियंत्रण के लिए प्रयास करने वाले राज्यों को नुकसान न हो।
