Physics · Thermal Conduction
Six identical rods (same geometry) are connected in a network. The end-points are maintained at temperatures of 100°C and 40°C. The network consists of two parallel branches connected between the ends: the top branch has two rods of thermal conductivity K each; the middle branch has two rods of thermal conductivity 3K each; and there are two vertical cross-connecting rods of thermal conductivity K each at junctions A and B. Find the steady-state temperatures TA and TB at junctions A and B.
- 1TA = 74°C, TB = 88°C
- 2TA = 89°C, TB = 73°C✓
- 3TA = 85°C, TB = 75°C
- 4TA = 73°C, TB = 89°C
Correct answer
TA = 89°C, TB = 73°C
