Due to the Tsunami in Indonesia, it is feared that its next component wave can prove dangerous for endangered Javan rhinos. It is believed that there are around 70 individuals of this endangered species in the Ujung Kulon National Park. However, no animal died in this calamity, but more than 400 people were killed in it. Officials have warned that the next Tsunami can completely destroy this area. This warning is pressurizing the National Park conservationists to find another habitat for them. Work has been done for nearly eight years on the plan to find another habitation for the species, in which conservationists conducted many surveys on Java and its adjacent Sumatra but have not been successful yet. Their number has fallen drastically due to poaching and human encroachment. Despite the lack of scientific evidence of the medicinal value of rhino horn, it is used in traditional Asian medicines, which command high prices in the black market.
