संवैधानिक नियम: भारतीय संविधान के अनुसार, यदि किसी पंचायत का विघटन (Dissolution) समय से पहले हो जाता है, तो उसके विघटन की तारीख से छह महीने की अवधि समाप्त होने से पहले नए चुनाव करा लेना अनिवार्य है।
अनुच्छेद: यह प्रावधान संविधान के अनुच्छेद 243-E के तहत किया गया है।
शर्त: विघटन के बाद नव-गठित पंचायत उस शेष अवधि के लिए ही कार्य करती है, जितने समय के लिए विघटित पंचायत को कार्य करना था (यदि शेष अवधि छह महीने से कम हो, तो नए चुनाव कराना अनिवार्य नहीं होता)।
