Mathematics · Thermal Properties of Matter
A wire of cross-sectional area 10-6 m2 is stretched between two rigid supports so that it is under a tension of 20 N. The distance between the supports is 1 m and the room temperature is 30 °C. If the temperature gets reduced to 20 °C, find the final tension. It is given that the coefficient of linear expansion and Young's Modulus of the material of the wire are 1.5 × 10-5 K-1 and 2.0 × 1011 N/m2 respectively.
