Mathematics · Electromagnetic Waves
A cubical box with unit volume contains a large number (1011) of photons, each with a frequency of 1015 Hz. Assume the total energy of these photons is equivalent to the average energy density of an electromagnetic wave occupying the same volume. The ratio of the electric field amplitude to the magnetic field amplitude of an electromagnetic wave is given as α × 106 V m-1 T-1. Find the value of α. (Take the speed of light, c = 3 × 108 m/s)
