Physics · Structural Mechanics - Slope Deflection Method
A continuous beam has AB as one of its spans with length 'L' and flexural rigidity EI. It is subjected to fixed end moments FEMA and FEMB under external loads. If the ends A and B rotate by θA and θB respectively, and the member axis rotates through a clockwise angle R = ΔL, then according to the slope-deflection equation, the final moment MA at end A is given by:
- 1MA = FEMB + 2EIL(2θA + 2θB - 3R)
- 2MA = FEMA + 4EIL(2θA + θB + 3R)
- 3MA = FEMA + 2EIL(2θA + θB - 3R)✓
- 4MA = FEMB + 4EIL(2θA + θB - 3R)
Correct answer
MA = FEMA + 2EIL(2θA + θB - 3R)
