स्पष्टीकरण:
संवैधानिक प्रावधान: 73वां संविधान संशोधन अधिनियम, 1992 ग्रामीण स्थानीय शासन (पंचायतों) से संबंधित है।
महिलाओं का आरक्षण: इसके द्वारा संविधान के अनुच्छेद 243D
- (3) में यह अनिवार्य किया गया है कि पंचायतों के सभी स्तरों पर प्रत्यक्ष निर्वाचन द्वारा भरी जाने वाली कुल सीटों में से कम से कम एक-तिहाई (1/3 या 33%) सीटें महिलाओं के लिए आरक्षित होंगी।
अतिरिक्त प्रावधान: यह आरक्षण सीटों के साथ-साथ पंचायतों के अध्यक्षों (सरपंचों/प्रमुखों) के पदों पर भी लागू होता है।
