व्याख्या
19वीं सदी के पूर्वार्द्ध में इटली राजनीतिक रूप से विभाजित था और उस समय कुल 13 राज्यों में बंटा हुआ था।
मुख्य बिंदु:
इटली का यह विखंडन वियना कांग्रेस (1815) के बाद हुआ था, जिसके कारण वहाँ विदेशी ताकतों (विशेषकर आस्ट्रिया) का प्रभाव बहुत अधिक बढ़ गया था।
इस राजनीतिक विखंडन को समाप्त करने और इटली को एक राष्ट्र बनाने के लिए ही एकीकरण (Risorgimento) का आंदोलन शुरू हुआ था।
