स्थापना वर्ष व स्थान: मार्च 1923 में इलाहाबाद (वर्तमान प्रयागराज) में इस पार्टी की नींव रखी गई थी।
संस्थापक: इसकी स्थापना देशबंधु चित्तरंजन दास और मोतीलाल नेहरू ने की थी। चित्तरंजन दास इसके पहले अध्यक्ष और मोतीलाल नेहरू इसके सचिव बने थे।
उद्देश्य: असहयोग आंदोलन के स्थगन के बाद कांग्रेस के भीतर ही रहकर विधान परिषदों में प्रवेश करना और ब्रिटिश सरकार की नीतियों का विरोध कर स्वराज्य हासिल करना था।
