वर्ष 2011 की जनगणना भारत की 15वीं क्रमवार जनगणना थी।
मुख्य बिंदु:
भारत में जनगणना की शुरुआत पहली बार 1872 में (लॉर्ड मेयो के कार्यकाल में) गैर-समकालिक (non-synchronous) रूप से हुई थी।
इसके बाद पहली बार व्यवस्थित और समकालिक (synchronous) जनगणना 1881 में (लॉर्ड रिपन के कार्यकाल में) शुरू हुई, जिसके बाद से प्रत्येक 10 वर्ष पर जनगणना कराई जाती है।
1872 की शुरुआत से लेकर 2011 तक कुल 15 बार जनगणना हो चुकी है, इसलिए 2011 की जनगणना 15वीं जनगणना थी (और स्वतंत्रता के बाद यह 7वीं जनगणना थी)।
