Let two non-collinear unit vectors â and b̂ form an acute angle. A point P moves such that at any time t the position vector OP, where O is the origin, is given by OP = â sin(t) + b̂ cos(t). When P is farthest from the origin O, let M be the length of OP and û be the unit vector along OP, then:
- 1û = â - b̂|â - b̂| and M = (1 - 2â · b̂)1/2
- 2û = â + b̂|â + b̂| and M = (1 + 2â · b̂)1/2✓
- 3û = â - b̂|â - b̂| and M = (1 + â · b̂)1/2
- 4û = â + b̂|â + b̂| and M = (1 + â · b̂)1/2
Correct answer
û = â + b̂|â + b̂| and M = (1 + 2â · b̂)1/2
